Marios Joannou Elia Elected Vice-Dean of the Class of Arts at the European Academy of Sciences and Arts

Historic First: Youngest Member of the Senate and Presidium

The Senate of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) has elected composer and cultural leader Marios Joannou Elia as Vice-Dean of the Class of Arts. The vote took place on Monday, July 28, 2025.

An ordinary member of the Academy since 2018, Elia previously headed the evaluation committee of the Class of Arts. Together with the Class Dean – who also serves as Rector of the Mozarteum University Salzburg – he will represent the Class in the Academy’s new Senate, which will assume office on November 24, 2025, for a five-year term.

Notably, Elia becomes the youngest member ever to serve on the Academy’s Senate and Presidium.

“It is a profound honor to help advance the dialogue between science and the arts at the European level,” said Marios Joannou Elia. “I look forward to working with colleagues across disciplines to foster innovation, cultural cooperation and public value.”
